Healthy Foods, Beauty Products Drive Women to Spend

We were curious to discover which healthy living products or lifestyle activities women spend the most money on, so as part of the POPSUGAR Insights 2014 Healthy Living Report, we asked women to select from a list of products and activities ranging from organic foods to facials to iPods to understand where they spent the most money.

In general, 23% of women spend the most money on beauty treatments and products for their hair, nails, or face. Overall, 22% of women spend the most money on healthy foods, and if you combine the responses for healthy foods to include organic foods and diet plans, that percentage climbs to 30%. Six percent of women say they spend the most money on a gym membership or personal trainer, and that percentage climbs to 11% if you include fitness and workout clothes.

Younger women, between the ages of 18 and 24 and especially between the ages of 18 and 20, were more likely to spend the most money on beauty treatments and products. Once women reached the age of 25-plus, the focus shifted from beauty products to spending more on healthy and organic foods.

Women from the East and the Midwest were more likely to spend money on beauty products, while women from the South and West were more likely to spend money on healthy and organic foods.
