As Steve Jobs once said, "Your work is a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work." Job satisfaction is an important part of being successful in your career, and so we wanted to explore the satisfaction levels of women in the workplace. In our POPSUGAR Insights 2016 Career Report, we surveyed over 2,000 women between the ages of 18 and 49 and asked them how they feel about their jobs and careers, what their career goals and aspirations are, and how satisfied they are at their current positions.
Overall, 71% of women say they are very satisfied or satisfied with the current position, with women between the ages of 30 and 44 being 6% more likely to be satisfied with their current position than women between the ages of 18 and 29. Women under the age of 30 are 12% less likely to be very satisfied. Only 13% of respondents say that they are unsatisfied or very unsatisfied with their current position.
When asked what drives their satisfaction and why they are likely to stay in their current job, women said they enjoy their current work environment (59%), they are satisfied with their work-life balance (58%), they are satisfied with their current positions (55%), they are satisfied with their current benefits (41%), they are satisfied with their current salary (33%), or they lack confidence to look for a new/better position (16%). Women under the age of 30 are 19% more likely to stay at their current job because they lack the confidence to look for a new position.
While a large percentage of women consider themselves satisfied with their current positions, careers span decades and have their ups and downs, so brands who want to connect with these women should offer inspirational content aligned with helping women find satisfaction and pursue their passions across multiple stages of their career or in different workplace situations. For example, offering strategies on how to succeed in a new position, or how to find a new level of passion for a position you've been in for a few years could be interesting ways to offer inspiration that helps a woman take her career to the next level. Additionally, brands can offer informational content that helps those who are less satisfied focus on how to derive more satisfaction in their current positions. For example, offering tips on how to stay healthy while dealing with a particularly stressful time at work could be a way to offer vital information to help a woman succeed during a difficult period in her career.
