Ever found yourself invited to an event and discovered that you had nothing to wear for the occasion? If so, you're not alone, as this is a common situation that millennial women find themselves in very often. As part of the POPSUGAR Future of Retail Experiences study, we asked women to tell us how frequently they purchase new apparel and accessories in advance of a specific event and which specific events they have purchased new apparel and accessories for in the past six months.
Overall, 77% of millennial women say that they purchase new apparel and accessories "very often" or "often" for upcoming events, with 29% specifically saying that they purchase apparel for an event "very often." Millennial women are not alone, however, as they're only 8% more likely than women between the ages of 18-49 to say they purchase apparel and accessories for an event "very often."
In terms of the specific events that millennial women have purchased new clothing and accessories for in the last six months, holidays (55%), a party or birthday (49%), an upcoming vacation (41%), a date or anniversary (40%), a wedding they were attending (39%), and a job interview or work event (39%) topped the list. Millennial women are 15% more likely to have purchased clothing for an upcoming holiday and 26% more likely to purchase clothing for an upcoming job interview than women between the ages of 18-49.
